Twitter Announces Method It May Use To Censor President Trump and Other Officials

Twitter will officially shadowban the tweets of public officials and hide them from several functions if they are deemed to violate rules.

In a blog post today, Twitter announced it will begin censoring public officials by hiding tweets that supposedly violate their rules.

“There are certain cases where it may be in the public’s interest to have access to certain Tweets, even if they would otherwise be in violation of our rules.” Twitter stated. “On the rare occasions when this happens, we’ll place a notice – a screen you have to click or tap through before you see the Tweet – to provide additional context and clarity. ”

Similar to Reddit’s action yesterday “quarantining” the pro-Trump forum The_Donald, Twitter users will now see disclaimers notifying them that a hidden tweet is violating the rules rather then seeing the tweet that supposedly violates the rules.

Twitter’s new quarantine screen

Twitter’s new form of censorship will shadowban tweets and remove them from “safe search, timeline when switched to Top Tweets, live events pages, recommended Tweet push notifications, notifications tab” and “Explore.”

Twitter’s new rule appears likely to be used against President Trump and other public officials that support him. Last year, Congressman Matt Gaetz filed an FEC complaint over Twitter shadowbanning him and other Republican officials.

CNN is already covering for Twitter’s new rule, claiming that “Republicans in Washington, including Trump, often claim without real evidence that technology companies are biased against conservatives.”

Last year, a Project Veritas investigation revealed a Twitter employee declaring being a “bleeding-heart liberal” “comes with the territory [at Twitter].”

Republican Devin Nunes is currently suing Twitter for $250 million in a lawsuit where he alleges that Twitter already shawdowbans conservatives.
