Facebook May Prevent Banned Users from Using its Proposed Cryptocoin Libra

Banned Facebook users like Milo Yiannopoulos and Alex Jones may be blocked from using Facebook's proposed cryptocurrency Libra

David Marcus, the head of Facebook’s proposed cryptocurrency Libra, stated in a Senate hearing yesterday that the “Libra Association” will decide whether it will exclude corporations whose social views it disagrees with.

The “Libra Association” includes members that have already taken action to exclude users based on political views, including Mastercard, PayPal, and Stripe.

In another Congressional hearing today, Marcus contradicted himself, claiming that the Libra Association with have no control over who uses Libra, but left open the possibility of excluding people from using a Libra wallet.

On the question of whether banned Facebook users like Milo Yiannopoulos, Alex Jones, and Laura Loomer will be able to use Libra, Marcus answered “I don’t know yet.”

Facebook was recently given a $5 billion fine by the FTC that many analysts have compared to a slap on the wrist after the social media giant was found violating it’s users privacy and selling their data.
